Terrence Deacon, University of California, Berkeley, USA
The biosemiotic emergence of referential information 12 June 9:15
Prof. Deacon’s research has combined human evolutionary biology and neuroscience, with the aim of investigating the evolution of human cognition. His work extends from laboratory-based cellular-molecular neurobiology to the study of semiotic processes underlying animal and human communication, especially language.

Schahram Dustdar, Vienna University of Technology, Austria
Schahram Dustdar is Full Professor of Computer Science and head of The Distributed Systems Group at the TU Wien, Austria. From 2004-2010 he was also Honorary Professor of Information Systems at the Department of Computing Science at the University of Groningen (RuG), The Netherlands. From Dec 2016 until Jan 2017 he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Sevilla, Spain and from January until June 2017 he was a Visiting Professor at UC Berkeley, USA. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, ACM Transactions on the Web, and ACM Transactions on Internet Technology and on the editorial board of IEEE Internet Computing and IEEE Computer. He is the Editor-in-Chief Computing (Springer). Dustdar is recipient of the ACM Distinguished Scientist award (2009), the IBM Faculty Award (2012), an elected member of the Academia Europaea: The Academy of Europe, and an IEEE Fellow (2016).

Yixin Zhong is currently chairman of IS4IS China Chapter. Yixin Zhong has published 18 books and over 500 papers in the fields of information and intelligence.

Pedro Marijuán is Senior Research Scientist at Spain’s Aragon Institute of Health Sciences (IACS) where he heads the Bioinformation Group. He has also served as IACS Research Director (2011-2015). In 1991, Marijuán co-founded FIS (Foundations of Information Science) with theoretical biologist Michael Conrad. FIS is “organizing a sound body of new thinking about the informational cohesion of the physical, biological and social realms” of science. He is also Vice-President for Protocol of the International Society for Information Studies (IS4SI).

Sarah Spiekermann, Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria
Prof. Spiekermann chairs the Institute for Management Information Systems at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna). She is author of the book “Ethical IT Innovation: A Value-based System Design Approach”. In addition to this work, she has published more than seventy articles on the social and ethical implications of computer systems and given more than a hundred presentations and talks about her work throughout the world.

Mark Burgin, University of California, Los Angeles, USA
Prof. Mark Burgin received his M.A. and Ph.D. in mathematics from Moscow State University, and Doctor of Science in logic and philosophy from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He was a Professor at the Institute of Education, Kiev; at International Solomon University, Kiev; at Kiev State University, Ukraine; and Head of the Assessment Laboratory in the Research Center of Science at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Currently he is working at UCLA, USA.

Olle Häggström is a Professor of Mathematical statistics at Chalmers University of Technology and he works part time at the Institute for Future Studies in Stockholm. He built most of his career doing probability theory, but has in recent years worked on a diverse range of subjects, including climate science, artificial intelligence, philosophy and futurology. His latest book is Here Be Dragons: Science, Technology and the Future of Humanity (Oxford University Press, 2016).

Bo Dahlbom is professor emeritus of Information systems at the University of Gothenburg and Research Director at Sustainable Innovation, a national center for energy efficiency in Stockholm. He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and a long time advisor to the Swedish government on IT policy, most recently as a member of the Swedish Coordination Council for Smart Grid.

Jack Copeland, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand
Jack Copeland is Head of Philosophy and Distinguished Professor at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, where he is Director of the Turing Archive for the History of Computing. He is also Honorary Research Professor of Philosophy at the University of Queensland, Australia. He is one of the people responsible for identifying the concept of hypercomputation and computational models more expressive than Turing machine model of computation.
