Call for Doctoral Symposium Papers
Call for Doctoral Symposium Papers
The Doctoral Symposium at the 2017 IS4SI Summit brings together PhD students and academics from the disciplines of computer science, information technology and information society, to discuss research topics around the main theme of the conference: DIGITALISATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE SOCIETY. Embodied, Embedded, Networked, Empowered through Information, Computation & Cognition!
The symposium offers the participants the opportunity to:
- Present their research projects and receive constructive feedback and mentoring from senior experts and peers.
- Interact with other students and with participants at the main conference, expanding their contact network and fostering a sense of community.
- Gain new understanding about their own research by exposure to a vast diversity of perspectives.
- Reflect on future trends and how their research can shape the future of digitalisation for a sustainable society.
Who should apply?
The symposium encourages applications from doctoral students in any stage of their PhD, as well as young researchers (post-docs) who have received their PhD degree within the last two years.
Students are welcomed to submit the current state of their PhD research, portions of work developed during a PhD course, an opinion/position about digitalisation and sustainability, or artistic ideas (see Artistic Track) that express the student’s thinking and feeling about topic at hand.
Application instructions
In the first step, extended abstracts 2-4 pages long IN TEXT FORMAT should be submitted through the conference submission site.
After acceptance, formatted abstracts should be submitted according to instructions under http://is4si-2017.org/submissions/.
The support letter must be signed by the main academic supervisor and must include:
- Name of the student
- Assessment of the current dissertation research status
- Why attendance at this Doctoral Consortium would be particularly beneficial to the student
- Expected date of defense of the dissertation (if applicable, not for post-docs)
Artistic Track
Because scientists are not only thinking machines, but also full sentient beings, as a novelty of this doctoral symposium, we invite participants to submit their own artistic creations together with their research proposal.
We do not limit in any way the format, style or message of these creations, as long as they are connected to the theme of the symposium: digitalization for sustainable society.
Artistic work should not be submitted through the conference submission site. Please contact the symposium chairs to learn about submission alternatives.
Participation in this track is by no means mandatory, but we really want to be amazed by your creativity!
Evaluation criteria
All applications containing the two documents mentioned above will be reviewed by the doctoral symposium panel and evaluated according to quality, originality and adequacy to the conference scope. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
All accepted authors will receive further instructions for preparing the camera-ready version of the proposal as well as more detailed information about the symposium activities.
Important dates
The Doctoral Symposium will take place on June 13, 2017.
Please find all the information about important dates on the summit web page.
